And that brings us back to Manchester City.

They toiled to a third-place finish last season but Pep Guardiola has shepherded in a new era, clearing out some big names to make way for fresh talent.

It obviously helps, though, that Erling Haaland has stuck around - signing a new long-term contract in the spring - and is back firing on all cylinders...

Four points between 2nd and 11th in the Premier League table. Arsenal's good start aside, it is a very tight league and most teams will think they have a chance of finishing in a European placing.

Mohamed Salah scored his 250th Liverpool goal as the Reds ended their four-game Premier League losing streak with victory over Aston Villa.

The 33-year-old Egyptian could not believe his luck when he was gifted the ball from Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez's poor clearance before firing low into the unguarded net in first-half added time.

Midfielder Ryan Gravenberch, back after missing three games with an ankle injury, sealed the three points in the 58th minute with a 20-yard shot that deflected in off Pau Torres to leave Martinez with no chance.

Salah's goal meant he joined Ian Rush and Roger Hunt in becoming only the third Liverpool player to ever score 250 goals in all competitions for the club.

The only team that can stop Arsenal winning the Premier League is themselves. Maintaining confidence, focusing on one game at a time, and keep believing will see them over the line. With the squad depth and Arteta's leadership, this is their time.

Arsenal go seven points clear after win over Burnley

Premier League leaders Arsenal continued their impressive start to the season with a comfortable win at Burnley on Saturday to make it nine consecutive victories in all competitions.

Goals from Viktor Gyokeres and Declan Rice sealed the win - their fifth in a row in the league.

It was an impressive victory against a Burnley side that can often prove difficult to break down and had recorded back-to-back victories before facing the Gunners.

But no side has scored more goals from set-pieces than Arsenal this season and it was from one that they took the lead, Gyokeres firing in from close range from Rice's corner.

The Gunners got their second before the break when Rice powerfully headed in Leandro Trossard's chipped ball.

Right, for anyone whose weekend did not revolve around football, let's have a quick reminder how we got here, before switching our focus to the form of Manchester City and Erling Haaland.

Arsenal were up first, their match at Burnley one of five fixtures to kick off at 3pm on Saturday.

Next up were Liverpool, who welcomed in-form Aston Villa to Anfield on Saturday evening.

And Manchester City closed off the weekend with the visit of second-placed Bournemouth to the Etihad...

  7. Tight in the top halfpublished at 07:47 GMT

It's still early days, of course.

The fact Manchester City were able to jump from fifth to second and Liverpool from seventh to third with just one win shows how tight it is in the top half of the table.

In fact, while there are six points between leaders Arsenal and second-placed Manchester City, just six points separate City and 12th-placed Brentford...

We will delve deeper into the form of Erling Haaland first thing this morning before opening up the discussion further to look at:

    • The title race
    • Wolves' nightmare start and their search for a new manager
    • Tottenham, Thomas Frank and player snubs
    • Liverpool's big week as they prepare to face Real Madrid and Manchester City

  9. Haaland - the goalscoring machinepublished at 07:37 GMT

In Manchester City's case, one of the biggest factors has to be the form of star striker Erling Haaland.

He broke out the robot celebration at the Etihad on Sunday after adding another two goals to his tally in City's 3-1 win against high-flying Bournemouth.

Even by his standards, the big Norwegian is enjoying a remarkable season.

He has scored 13 goals in the first 10 Premier League games of the season - just two behind his own personal record of 15 in the first 10 set in 2022-23.

Les Ferdinand (13 in 1995-96) is the only other player in Premier League history to manage that many goals in the opening 10 games of a season.

Haaland also became only the third player ever to score two or more goals in four or more consecutive Premier League home appearances, after Robbie Fowler (four across 1995/1996) and Luis Suarez (five in 2013).

  10. Cream rises to the top?published at 07:28 GMT

Only last week we were considering the unlikely array of teams fighting for places near the top of the Premier League, with the majority of the usual challengers sitting outside the top four.

After the latest round of fixtures, the table stands:

    • Arsenal - 25 pts
    • Manchester City - 19 pts
    • Liverpool - 18 pts

That order could change tonight, with promoted side Sunderland able to jump up to second place with a win at home to Everton in the final fixture of Gameweek 10.

But Opta's Supercomputer has pegged perennial winners Manchester City and defending champions Liverpool as Arsenal's main title challengers this season for a reason...
